Arrest Records in Salem County

An arrest in Salem County creates several related records, not one universal file. The arresting police department, sheriff's office, or New Jersey State Police station makes the incident or arrest report. If the person enters county custody, the Salem County Correctional Facility creates a booking profile. A complaint may then enter the municipal court system or the Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Criminal Part. Those layers answer separate questions. The police report describes the event and investigation. The jail profile shows custody, identifiers, booked allegations, bonds, detainers, and release information. The court file records charges that were actually filed and their later outcome. Because allegations may be changed, diverted, dismissed, or replaced by an indictment, a Salem County booking entry should never be read as the final case result.

Results can show the inmate name, booking number, permanent ID, date of birth, and release date. A profile can add physical descriptors, housing location, commitment and projected release dates, aliases, detainers, bond details, and charge information such as the case number, offense date, code, description, grade, and degree. It can also show several justice-system identifiers. The reviewed profile did not display the arresting officer or agency, a warrant, judge, court date, booking time, or release conditions. Ask the source agency or court for those missing facts rather than treating the jail screen as complete.

Salem County Arrest Lookups

No single public name search covers every Salem County arrest. The county IML works for current or recent local custody, but older cases, a fast release, a transfer, and an arrest without county booking may require another route. Follow the record from the narrowest custody source to the agency and court that created the next document.

1. Search the free Salem County IML by name and date of birth. Turn on “Include released inmates” when the custody event may have ended, or search with a booking, permanent, state, county, FBI, or ICE identifier.
2. If the entry is missing or unclear, call Salem County Corrections at 856-769-4300. Check New Jersey VINE at 877-846-3465 for custody notification, then use NJDOC Offender Search after a transfer to sentenced state custody.
3. Request the incident or arrest report from the agency that made the arrest. Give the date, place, record type, and incident or booking number when known; a jail profile cannot replace the agency narrative.
4. Confirm filed charges through the exact municipal court or the Salem County Superior Court Criminal Division. The court layer shows whether an accusation was filed, downgraded, dismissed, diverted, or resolved.
5. For an older identifiable county record, submit the County of Salem OPRA form by email, fax, mail, pickup, or on-site inspection. A resident seeking their own statewide history should instead use the NJSP fingerprint personal-record process.

The county says it will acknowledge receipt by email and asks requesters to call if no acknowledgment arrives within 24 business hours. Court records use Judiciary criminal-record request procedures, not the county OPRA custodian.

First Appearances After Salem County Arrests

Request a Salem County Arrest Report

The arrest report remains with the agency that made the arrest. Salem City Police, Pennsville Police, Lower Alloways Creek Police, Carneys Point Police, Penns Grove Police, Elmer Police, Woodstown Police, the Salem County Sheriff, and NJSP stations all have distinct records channels. Pittsgrove has no township police records desk; NJSP Bridgeton serves that township. NJSP Woodstown serves Oldmans, Pilesgrove, Mannington, Alloway, Quinton, and Upper Pittsgrove.

Give the agency a tight description: date and time range, place, incident or booking number, type of report, and your requested delivery method. An NJSP-created report goes through the Office of the Attorney General OPRA custodian at 609-882-2000 ext. 6585. Salem County's OPRA form supports pickup, on-site inspection, mail, fax, and email. It charges five cents per letter-size page and seven cents per legal-size page; material, postage, and extraordinary-service costs can also apply. Set a maximum authorized cost when using the form. OPRA seeks a specific existing record, not an answer to a broad research question.

OPRA does not override exemptions for criminal-investigatory material, victims, privacy, or active investigations. Juvenile law-enforcement records are confidential under N.J.S.A. 2A:4A-60. A custodian may therefore deny a record, release only part, or redact protected details even when the request identifies a real Salem County arrest.

Carneys Point has a particularly clear local route. Its Police Records Division at 303 Harding Highway accepts requests on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 856-299-1033 ext. 113. It says to allow three days if the report is complete, then approved pickup is available at any time. Involved parties pay no fee for an accident or incident report requested in person. Email and mail are available, mailed accident requests require a self-addressed stamped envelope, and fax is not accepted.

From Salem County Arrest to SBI

Salem County Arrests vs Convictions

An arrest record proves that an accusation or custody event was recorded. It does not establish guilt. The court, not the arresting agency or jail, records a plea, verdict, dismissal, diversion, and sentence. For a Salem County incident, pair the booking identifier with the filed complaint or indictment before drawing any conclusion about what occurred.
